How to help your child to continue building mental maths skills when you have to work from home?
My old school trick is: give them a great workbook! The truth is that you cannot be with your child all the time, you need to work as well, plus the chores always creep up on us! And what if you have more than one kid?
Mix of different teaching strategies will help you! You already know about my video tutorials and hands on projects, and you probably have a bunch of online games from your school. Now it’s time for a book. A good workbook will not only boost your child's maths, but also encourage the reasoning, problem solving and keep kids off the screen.
TOP TIP: tell your child that they can use any resources they want to answer the questions. Do you think they will use them? Challenge them by saying "I think that you can answer these questions without using any". Don't be strict if they decide to use a hundred square, the next day when they do a second page, say "Today you are not allowed to use any manipulatives".
Here is my selection - the best from the best!
Book 4 includes: reading and writing two digit numbers, multiplication and division, halves, quarters and three-quarters, sorting objects, measuring lengths and reading scales. There are 3 books for Year 2. This one is the first from the series.
