I love to use a big whiteboard as a weekly calendar. We made our together. Stick notes with days of the week at the top. Under Monday to Friday write “school days”. Under Saturday and Sunday - “family time”. We also put all the after school activities that we do, so it's easier to keep a track. I love to put things like reading, baking, phonics, maths, so my son can check himself what are we focusing on today.
I don't recommend you to buy a ready weekly calendar. They very often start with Sunday, and it is not what you want. Your child will start a new week with his first trip to school, and that's easier to remember. They are also quite small, so not the best for little people to see the pictures that you will stick on. Instead get at least A2 magnetic whiteboard. We put ours on top of the fireplace in the kitchen, so we can see it clearly while munching breakfast. To be absolutely honest, we planned to hang it but it still didn't happen... For the pictures I browsed the internet and got a free trial for a week on a software, where you can create them yourself. You can also use your child's photos. Oh, the reason why it is better to get the magnetic whiteboard is that you can stick magnetic tape under your pictures and stick them (mess free) on top, and also easier to change their location. Plus you and your child will be writing a lot on it!
